Chetwynd

The Town

As you enter Chetwynd, you are greeted by amazing wood carvings along the main street and throughout the town.   The District of Chetwynd is located in the foothills of the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains. It is British Columbia’s entrance to the mighty Peace River Country.  Chetwynd is famous for the fabulous chainsaw carvings around town and the annual Chainsaw carving competition.

Chetwynd has a population of about 3,100 with a trading area of about 7,000 people. When not hard at work, the people of Chetwynd enjoy an excellent recreation complex with a wave pool, climbing wall, team-sized hot tub, gym, sauna, six-sheet curling rink, ice arena and library.

The Clinical Experience

Residents are valued junior colleagues who will be supported to develop autonomy and confidence.  The self-directed learner will be encouraged to pursue special interests in parallel to core requirements.  Training will be optimized to strengths and needs, while promoting integration into the local health care community. Residents will be based in Chetwynd with segmental learning in nearby Tumbler Ridge. There is also potential to work within specialty services in Dawson Creek, such as obstetrics.

As a Rural Immersion Resident in Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge you will enjoy a truly immersive rural experience with no competing residents.   Explore the variety of primary care, inpatient medicine, procedures, first-call emergency medicine and more under direct mentorship of a rural family physician while building longitudinal relationships.

It is always easy to find your way around and commutes are short.  Emergency shifts will take place in rural 24/7 departments with variable resources.
