Kamloops has a wealth of recreational and cultural activities. We have first-class skiing and mountain biking at Sun Peaks Resort. There is a nightly summer Music in the Park program and a creative Arts and Theatre community. Kamloops is known as the Tournament Capital of Canada, and we are home to the WHL Kamloops Blazers.

Increasingly, health care is delivered through team-based care. We aim to help you make the most of team-based medicine, which is now operational in a few of our community family medicine settings.

Health care systems and information constantly change based on emerging evidence. Our site faculty and preceptors will help you develop the skills you need to manage change and foster personal development in the process. A goal of our program is to help you prepare for an enjoyable life as a Family Physician, knowing that you have solid skills practicing in the broad field of Family Medicine.

Our residents have been integrated as health professionals responding to our patient and population needs. I am personally grateful for the health care culture in Kamloops.

Kamloops is a community that will embrace and supports you in your clinical, academic, and personal pursuits. We look forward to meeting you in July!

Welcome to Kamloops!

Benefits of the Kamloops Program:

Unique Features
Our program combines a primarily block-based model with longitudinal experiences. During off-service rotations, residents spend four days on rotation and one day in alternating academic and family medicine clinic days. We follow long-term care and obstetric patients throughout training.

Continuous Family Medicine Exposure
Family medicine is a constant focus, ensuring you can apply concepts learned during specialty rotations. You’ll have clinic days every other week to build your patient panel, with many specialty rotations tailored to family medicine.

Minimal Competition for Learning
With just 17 family medicine residents and a few medical students, you often work alone, ensuring ample opportunities for consults and procedures.

Strong Academic Curriculum
Our faculty continuously improve the curriculum, offering lectures on key topics for the CCFP exam and behavioral medicine. We have an excellent simulation lab and regular ultrasound training.

Collegial Community
The program is well-received in Kamloops, with enthusiastic preceptors who value resident involvement in interesting cases.

Opportunity to Make an Impact
We encourage resident feedback to improve the program, with recent changes enhancing long-term care and ER opportunities.

Tertiary Care & Rural Exposure
As a level 2 trauma center, Kamloops offers high clinical exposure with opportunities in surrounding rural communities.

Work-Life Balance
Residents are encouraged to engage in outdoor activities, with mountain biking, skiing, and nearby lakes. The welcoming community offers numerous cultural events and easy access to nearby attractions.

Challenges
Opportunities to teach are limited, and while Kamloops is a tertiary center, some services like thoracic surgery are not available. Elective time can be used to gain this experience.

Kamloops program is dedicated to training you as a competent family doctor, ready to provide comprehensive care!
